Creators grow fastest through peer discovery, not paid ads. But most collaborations underperform because both creators pick each other based on friendship, not audience math.
The overlap sweet spot
The right collab has 5–20% audience overlap between the two creators. Here is why:
Under 5% — the audiences barely know each other exists. The content lands as random. Neither audience picks up the other creator, because there is not enough shared context to bridge them.
5–20% — enough shared context for the content to make sense to both audiences ("oh, you two know each other, cool") AND enough non-overlap that each creator gains real new reach.
Over 20% — you are mostly talking to your own audience twice. The collab feels redundant. Neither creator gains meaningful new followers because the "new" audience is mostly people who already followed you.
How Sifa computes overlap
We compare aggregate audience signals — comment topic overlap, hashtag corpus, audience geo/language distribution — without ever looking at individual followers (per our data-minimization policy). The result is a fair estimate, not a leak.
When you turn on "Open to collabs" in your dashboard, we surface creators in your sweet spot. Each match card shows the overlap %, the sweet-spot score, and suggested collab formats (guest, duet, joint live, cross-promotion).
What to do
Pick one creator adjacent-but-not-parallel to you. Do one collab. Track new follower quality afterward — not just count. If the new followers behave like your existing ones (comment, engage), the overlap was good. If they never engage, the overlap was wrong.
